This is Katsup! Katsup is a handsome red-eared slider looking for a home of his own. Red-eared sliders can up to 20+ years in captivity with proper care, as their average lifespan in the wild is 30! The general rule of thumb for proper slider tanks is 10 gallons per inch of the turtle’s shell. Red-eared sliders grow to be about 12 inches in diameter and will need at least a 120 gallon tank, or a pond, that provides a space for swimming and a space for land dwelling as Katsup is semi-aquatic. These cute little modern dinosaurs need protection from predators and the cold, as well as a steady diet of turtle food and other snacks to make them happy. Red-eared sliders are omnivores so she will need a plant and meat based diet. Often turtles eat small fish such as comets or minnows, even bugs such as mealworms.

Katsup is available for adoption at San Diego Humane Society’s San Diego Campus at 5500 Gaines St. To learn more about making him part of your family, please visit sdhumane.org/adopt or call 619-299-7012.
