Boom Chocolatta is a 2-year-old, 13-pound male Spaniel mix, named after the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor.
He was found wandering and brought to a crowded local shelter by a good Samaritan. When no one came forward to claim him, he was transferred to Rancho Coastal Humane Society through Friends of County Animal Shelters (FOCAS).
Boom is friendly and playful. In his kennel he happily greets visitors with excited woofs. Outside the kennel, he enjoys being petted, but he does best when people take their time and let him sniff and get comfortable before touching him.
He’s a high-energy dog who needs both physical and mental enrichment. Toy and food puzzles, sniff-focused outings, and positive-reinforcement training are great for him. He’ll need more activity than just daily walks or trips to the dog park.
Boom is also very attached to his toys. If you need to take one away, he responds well to a “trade-up”—offering him something equal or better in exchange. This helps show him that people give, not just take.
His $145 adoption fee includes a medical exam, neuter, vaccinations, microchip, and a one-year license for adopters living within San Diego Humane Society’s jurisdiction.
For more information, visit Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas or go to www.SDpets.org. Open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, closed Tuesdays.
