You can say I’m just a little excited for this estimated 500 million dollar edition of Powerball. I’m pretty sure I won’t win, but it sure is fun to dream, right?
Here’s a few quick facts:
How does the jackpot rank?
It will be the sixth-largest ever in North America. The largest Powerball prize was a $590.5 million jackpot won by a Florida woman in May 2013.
What are the payment options?
The cash option would be an estimated $306 million before taxes. If you chose to be paid on annuity, you’d get the full jackpot, paid out over 29 years.
What are my odds?
One in 292.2 million! You have better odds of being struck my lightning, being hit by an asteroid, or even becoming President…ouch!
R Dub’s take:
I’m not a huge gambler, but I think the “dream” alone is worth my two dollars. Of course I pretty much know that I’m not going to win…but someone has to win…so you never know. I look at it like this–I can afford the $2–and to me $2 is worth all the “fun” I have day dreaming about all the cool stuff I’d do if I won. It’s not about thinking or planning I’ll actually win, but more about the fun of being able to really use my imagination. Basically, it’s cheap entertainment.
