On February 24th, 2007 I was honored to receive "The Community Leader of Year Award" from the San Diego Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. It is a blessing and an honor to be recognized by such a prestigious organization that does so much for the Latino community. This organization has many members that are the "movers and shakers" of the Chicano/Latino community in San Diego, the "Who's Who" in the community belong to this organization and to be recognized by them just blew me away. To be honest with you, I was shocked because I never set out to get such recognition or use this avenue for a radio publicity stunt. I do it because it comes straight from my heart. That is the way mom raised me; to always help others. That is what I learned when I first began my career in public radio, that the air waves should be used to uplift the community, because the airwaves belong to the people.
