Karolyn Smith

We are proud to introduce our Military Hometown Hero this month, Karolyn Smith!  Karolyn is a combat veteran of the Iraq war and author of “Sophia the Bionic Cat.”

Karolyn, suffers combat wounds and PTSD, wrote the children’s book based on the true story of her adoption of a amputee kitten, Sophia.  The two bonded as they healed together and started an incredible journey together. Partnering with FabLab San Diego, Karolyn and the Lab would design the first ever, detachable, 3D Printed Prosthetic for cat, and Sophia would begin to take up the charge of being a beacon of hope and perseverance; mirroring the same determination that Karolyn would show in Iraq in 2004 as a crew sere machine gunner.
