September is National Suicide Prevention Month.  Carlsbad resident, Jeff Holland, came in to the Magic studios to tell Jagger and Kristi about something he and his family created called “My Coping Cards”.

Jeff and his family were personally affected by suicide, having recently had a family member succeed at taking her own life.  When cleaning out her house following her suicide they found a number of hand-written sticky notes and index cards with positive affirmations, motivational quotes taped to her cabinets, furniture and mirrors.  Seeing the notes gave them the idea to start an inspirational ‘card kit’, vetted by mental health professionals, that people could use as part of their treatment program for any mental health issues they may have.

Jeff and his wife, who is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, started a Kickstarter campaign and were funded to create My Coping Cards.  They are available on Amazon and three local San Diego stores: Live Enlightened and Free and Trove Marketplace both in Carlsbad, and Gypsy Soul Dreaming in Oceanside.

If you or someone you know is struggling with depression and thinking about suicide please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1 800-273-TALK.
