The Queen of Soul’s idea of retirement: sitting on her front porch in a rocker? Playing bingo at the senior center? Joining her neighborhood homeowners association?

No to all of the above. Instead, she’s opening her own nightclub!

Franklin told the Detroit Free Press:

“I’m interested in doing a small nightclub downtown, and have been talking about this for a couple of years now. In my retirement plan, I’d like to have a small club here in Detroit. From time to time I would sing, and of course, I would have special artists come in to perform for the city that people in Detroit like – Detroit favorites.”

Franklin, now 75, lived in Detroit during her childhood and today lives outside the city in Bloomfield Hills. She’s currently working on a new album, due this fall, which will include contributions from Stevie Wonder.
